Salmonella - small bacteria, which live rather long in environment: in water – 120 days, in sea water – up to 217 days, in the meat – more than a year, at home – more than a year and a half.

Room temperature –is ideal for their breeding, especially in the food. In doing so, they don’t die in the canned food, don’t change the taste and smell of food, but die in the boiling water.

You can get salmonella poisoning:

- from an infected person;

- from farm animals and pets;

- with the use of food (meat, poultry meat, fish, eggs and egg products, milk and dairy products);

- If you swim in water (tap water in the accident, open water).

Usually, the main reason of infection is incorrect food cooking. Check salmonella poisoning symptoms.

Salmonella poisoning exists in several forms, and primary among them is – gastro-form (acute gastritis, acute gastroenteritis or gastroenterocolitis), which is typical of food contamination by bacteria.

As all other infectious processes, the illness begins very acute. The main salmonella poisoning symptoms are:

- general weakness;

- headache;

- fever (under 39);

- nausea and vomiting;

- abdominal pain;

- diarrhea (feces up to 10 times a day).

Intestinal upset can take up to seven days or more, causing weight loss, dehydration, the appearance of convulsions.

There are also other forms of salmonella poisoning:

- Quiet salmonellosis starts with diarrhea and fever, but on the second day, only the high temperature and increase poisoning symptoms. The main symptom is the appearance of skin rashes.

- Septic form – most severe, is characterized by jumps in temperature, the formation of septic foci (heart affect, arthritis), is difficult to treat;

- Bacteria carrying can be acute, chronic, transitory, however, diagnosed only on the analysis, since there are no symptoms;

- Subclinical form is determined by faeces analysis and the identification of antibodies in the blood

For medical treatment:

- Calcium (gluconate, glycerophosphate, lactate);

- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;

- Drugs for removing toxins (activated charcoal, Smecta, Mezym-forte);

- Antibiotics for germs destroying (ciprofloxacin, Furaginum);

- To prevent dehydration and restore electrolyte balance (Rehydron).

Among the auxiliary tools is mandatory diet, vitamins, probiotics to restore the rate of intestinal microflora.

For the prevention of salmonella poisoning it’s necessary:

- To comply with the technology of storing and cooking food;

- Do not eat raw meat, eggs and milk;

- To handle children’s toys, baby’s dummy with the boiling water;

- To watch out your personal hygiene;

- Activities aimed at immune enhancing (rejection of bad habits, walking, regular exercise and good nutrition).
